Jason Carlton Independent for City Council

Hello! I am Jason Carlton, I am seeking the Santa Barbara City 6th district seat on the City Council. We are facing an important time in city government; the city budget, the challenges in affordability, public safety, and the design of State Street dominate the conversation and I want to bring the necessary solutions to keep our outstanding city thriving.

Empty storefronts, high taxes, increased parking fees, expensive permitting, aggressive ticketing, unhoused individuals suffering with substance abuse and/or mental illness are just some of the issues downtown residents and businesses deal with.

I'm not a politician, I'm an electrical contractor and small business owner running as an Independent. I have no party agenda, no professional team representing me, no special interest endorsements.

I have lived in Santa Barbara for over 25 years, I have raised my son here, and my wife was born and raised in downtown SB.

I have always been community-oriented. As an electrician, IBEW member, and business owner, I have held fundraisers, donated to local causes, and donated my trade skills. I look at the City Council position as serving the community that I love. There are many projects I have managed or worked on: SBJH Theatre, Milpas sidewalk lights, Fire Station 1, and the Emergency Operations Center, to name a few.

My skill set is unique among the candidates running for council. I understand what it takes to run a small business, I specialize in problem solving, I understand the infrastructure building process, and I have no aspirations for any office higher than the Santa Barbara City Council. In my work and in my daily life I interact with people from all walks of life, and different backgrounds. I believe that I can help bridge communication gaps, and bring people together.

I am consistent, hardworking, and curious about what you think city leadership should look like. I look forward to talking with you, and please remember to register to vote by October 19th for the election on November 3rd.
